As adults, many of us are trying to figure out how to take care of ourselves emotionally, due to having a weak framework of emotional intelligence as a child. Starting early with supporting and encouraging children in acquiring the skills to identify and express their feelings will help contribute not only to their long-term emotional well-being but to their overall health.
The Bitter Melon was inspired by The Bad Seed and The Good Egg with a cultural twist, as this particular melon is most widely used in Asian cuisines. It is a story about a Bitter Melon who decides that they do not want to be bitter all the time and recognizes that they are not their emotions.
By honoring emotions, creating healthy boundaries and practicing self-compassion the Bitter Melon is learning to feel safe, loved, calm and respected.
